Saturday Fun Ride is Mynydd y Grug, part of the Gwent Mountain Challenge

Cwm Sirhywi has the same venue as Mynydd y Grug and now warrants its own page. This new ride will have some familiar terrain to riders who have taken part in Mynydd Machen in previous years. The venue is by courtesy of our local Riding Club, Islwyn, and is a lovely flat field which is used for Shows. It was formerly the Sportsfield for a local factory so is quite well drained unless we have some torrential downpours. The field is bordered by the Afon Sirhowy so plenty of water. It is an ideal venue for Camping and Corralling as there is a pub (the Halfway at Wyllie) in less than 5 minutes walk and others within a few minutes drive.

This is a fairly typical Welsh ride with some nice forest tracks, some bridle paths and  country lanes as well as the common land on Mynydd y Grug where there are some fabulous views over to the Brecon Beacons (unless of course its raining!).  All routes have some testing but fittening climbs!

The venue is near Pontllanfraith and Blackwood and should take about 20 minutes from Junction 28 off the M4 - which is about 20 minutes from the Severn Bridge.
